    Missed Us? Bar Bario returns to Hal West for Pride, fulfilling its mission to create an intentional, inclusive space. Our pop-up café offers a Queer haven of calm amidst the overwhelming Pride business, with its familiar warm energy, iconic drinks, and a rich selection of community events.

    At its heart is a powerful intersectional exhibition highlighting the layered realities of Queer artists of color. Their work explores the tensions between multiple marginalized identities, inviting visitors to reflect on the complexity of self-definition. By immersing yourself in these stories, you may just break through the isolation that can exist within your own identity.

    In a time when Pride often centers on mindless celebration, this exhibition offers depth. It reminds us that pride cannot be separated from struggle – and that embracing every part of yourself is essential for self-acceptance, collective strength, and growth.

    Het Huis van Eddy brengt generaties samen tijdens Pride: een avond waar verhalen thuiskomen

    Op 3 augustus vindt in De Westweelde Liefde in Amsterdam Het Huis van Eddy plaats: een gratis toegankelijke avond waarin verhalen, geschiedenis en ontmoeting centraal staan. Oudere en jongere generaties uit de zwarte queer gemeenschap komen samen en delen hun verhalen door middel van persoonlijke gesprekken, spoken word en live muziek. Tegelijkertijd staat de deur nadrukkelijk open voor iedereen die wil luisteren, ontmoeten en meer wil leren over deze gedeelde geschiedenis.

    Centraal staat Eddy, dé Bigi Sma van de zwarte queer gemeenschap. Op bijna 82-jarige leeftijd is hij een belangrijke drager van de geschiedenis, ervaringen en levensverhalen van oudere zwarte queer generaties. Zijn verhalen vormen het vertrekpunt voor een avond waarin herinneringen worden gedeeld, nieuwe perspectieven ontstaan en verschillende generaties met elkaar in gesprek gaan.

    “We zijn geneigd om sterren een podium te geven en naar hun verhalen te luisteren. Maar daardoor blijven de verborgen parels van Amsterdam vaak onzichtbaar: de verhalen van ouderen uit de zwarte queer gemeenschap, achter hun eigen voordeur. Verhalen die misschien nooit de voorpagina haalden, maar minstens zo bijzonder en van onschatbare waarde zijn”, aldus Sher Ewo.

    Het Huis van Eddy is er vóór én dóór de oudere en jongere zwarte queer gemeenschap, maar nodigt nadrukkelijk ook buurtbewoners en andere Amsterdammers uit om aan te schuiven. Iedereen die nieuwsgierig is naar deze verhalen en geschiedenis is welkom. Het is een plek om te luisteren, elkaar te ontmoeten en met elkaar in gesprek te gaan, in een sfeer waarin iedereen zich thuis mag voelen. De toegang is gratis, zodat de avond voor zoveel mogelijk mensen toegankelijk is.

    Het programma bestaat uit panelgesprekken met queer iconen van toen en queer jongeren van nu, spoken word, live muziek en ontmoetingen tussen verschillende generaties. De avond wordt gepresenteerd door Frank en Sher Ewo. Frank is bekend van televisie en theater en bereikte een groot publiek met zijn alter ego Fatzy en later met de persoonlijke voorstelling Blaka Lola. Tegenwoordig zet hij zich actief in voor de zwarte en queer gemeenschap. Sher Ewo is directeur van Stichting Silent Nois3, documentairemaker en initiatiefnemer van maatschappelijke programma’s waarin ruimte wordt gemaakt voor verhalen die te vaak ongehoord blijven.

    Met Het Huis van Eddy krijgt de geschiedenis van de zwarte queer gemeenschap een podium tijdens Pride. Niet alleen om terug te kijken, maar juist om het verleden te verbinden met het heden en de toekomst. Een open avond waar verschillende generaties en gemeenschappen elkaar ontmoeten, verhalen worden gedeeld en nieuwe gesprekken ontstaan. Een plek om samen te luisteren, te lachen, te dansen en te vieren. Of, zoals Frank het zegt: “Dik, zwart, gay en elegant gaan heel goed samen.” Het Huis van Eddy. Waar onze verhalen thuis zijn.

    Are you a Queer KOC ( Kinkster of Colour ) and lately been thinking “Wow, I really wanna meet and connect with more kinksters of colour – wherever do I go?!” Do you yearn for a get together that has more of your flavour? May it be a little bit of Adobo, Ras El Hanout or a kick of Sichuan Pepper.

    Well the BIPOC Queer / Trans* / Femme* Group Amsterdam+ created by @General_Malaise and hosted by @TranyeWest is organising a munch at Bar Buka where we can all come together to talk about different topics, simply relax, hang-out, blow off some steam and seek out support!

    The Munch is from 18:00 till 21:00.
    The Introduction and Topic are not mandatory, if you want to skip that you can arrive at 18:00 and just join the group.

    18:00 till 18:15 - Walk in, get a drink and find the host to join our spot or tables.

    18:15 till 19:00 - 19:15 - Introduction Round and talking about the topic at hand. The topics can go from easy breasy to talking about more systemic issues. Around 18:00 tot 18:10 we’ll slowly round of the topic and make space for the other people who are joining.

    19:15 till 21:00 - Free time! Everybody is free to yap and connect with eachother. Either continue the topic, crack some jokes or zone out safely in the corner. It is all good.

    21:00 Munch Over - The Munch ends but Bar Buka continues! If you don't want to leave you are more then welcome to hang out and vibe out.
