On May 25th, Pottenkijkers and DykeHouse Press take over Filmtheater de Uitkijk for a night dedicated to leather, kink and lesbians. We will read from Leatherdyke Love Letters, the latest zine by DykeHouse Press, and screen Michelle Handelman’s landmark documentary BloodSisters: Leather, Dykes and Sadomasochism (1995).
Shot on digital video from inside San Francisco’s leather dyke scene in the early 90s, BloodSisters was the first film to represent this queer community on the fringes — featuring the players who started the current conversation on gender fluidity and radical sexuality. From pushy bottoms to macho femmes, it shatters assumptions about gender and lesbian sexuality. Raw, unfiltered, and thirty years later still as vital as ever.
Before the screening, we read from Leatherdyke Love Letters, DykeHouse Press’s latest zine bringing together nine contributors writing about lesbian leather and kink culture.
