Pottenkijkers dives into the archive with our next edition on the 25th of march. For the occasion of queer history month we paired up for a second time with IHLIA LGBTI Heritage. This time, we will screen a short compilation film, 90Ā“s Potten (2026), made specifically for this screening, which gives a snippet of queer and lesbian life in Amsterdam in the 90’s. It shows a collage of archival footage shot and/or conserved by Het Lesbisch Archief Amsterdam (the Amsterdam lesbian archive). Het Lesbisch Archief Amsterdam was set up in 1982 to preserve lesbian life in Amsterdam and make it visible and accessible. Later the archive would go up into what IHLIA is today.

Together with this short we will screen the documentary Dykes, Camera, Action! (2018) by Caroline Berger. This documentary shows the history of lesbian filmmaking. Lesbians didn’t always get to see themselves on screen. But between Stonewall, the feminist movement, and the experimental cinema of the 1970s, they built visibility, and transformed the social imagination about queerness. Filmmakers Barbara Hammer, Su Friedrich, Rose Troche, Cheryl Dunye, Yoruba Richen, Desiree Akhavan, Vicky Du, film critic B. Ruby Rich, Jenni Olson, and others share moving and often hilarious stories from their lives and discuss how they’ve expressed queer identity through film.

On the 2nd of March Pottenkijkers is back at De Uitkijk with a special evening focussed on trans/masculinity. At this screening we explore masculinity in our broader community, be it by butches, trans dykes, our trans brothers, or beyond. Throughout history, members of the LGBTQ+ community found different ways and words to define their masculinity and their identity, something that has evolved over time, often related to the tools at hand in our society. The name ā€˜Pottenkijkers’ might not be applicable for some of the people we are about to watch, but the exploration of gender identity and masculinity is shared and inherently part of many queer, trans and lesbian experiences.

On March 2nd, we are screening the short documentary kiss kiss bang bang (2025) by Amsterdam director Ollie Launspach and The Agressives (2005) by Daniel Pebble.

In kiss kiss bang bang, a love portrait made from home videos, photos, diaries, audio recordings, and interviews, director Ollie Launspach explores the impact of his transition on his girlfriend Sterre Mulder. While he tries to understand her emotional world, the chaos in his own mind slowly unfolds.

The intimate documentary The Agressives follows the lives of six queer people over the course of five years starting in 1999. Through their experiences, the documentary explores gender, sexuality, race and class. The documentary shows a moment in time where the main characters all define their masculinity while (still) identifying as women. Their stance gives insight into the transphobia and stigma very much present in their lives. Most of them would later go in transition, after the filming of this documentary ended.

    Pottenkijkers: JULIAN

By Pottenkijkers @ De uitkijk, Prinsengracht 452, Amsterdam

In this true story, inspired by Fleur Pierets’ book, Fleur and Julian meet at a concert. The two women fall head over heels for each other and soon make plans for the future. They want to get married, and then Fleur comes up with an intriguing and romantic idea: would it be possible to say ā€œI doā€ in every country where marriage is legal? Project 22, based on the number of countries where same-sex marriage was legal in 2017, quickly took shape. After just four ceremonies, their trip is abruptly interrupted, and they have to unexpectedly put their plans on hold.
