    In ā€œWho the F*ck is Britt?!ā€ neemt Sem Jansen je mee in zijn transitie: van vrouw naar man, van zangeres naar zanger, van Britt naar Sem. Wat eerst een toneelvoorstelling was, met een succesvolle tour langs 48 theaters in samenwerking met de Leif de Leeuw Band en filmcollectief De Transketeers, vindt nu nieuw leven op het witte doek. Maar wees niet gevreesd: de film is net zo indringend als op het podium en blijft muzikaal. Aan de hand van muziek, persoonlijke anekdotes en documentaire beelden uit heden en verleden ontvouwt zich een verhaal over identiteit, over verlies en winst, en over de zoektocht naar een stem.

    City of Lost Souls is a wild German musical that follows a group of eccentric cabaret performers as they move from America to Berlin to pursue careers in the arts. The raunchy ensemble - consisting of an occult sex therapist, a trapeze act duo, and artists of various sexual orientations and disorientations - struggles to find acceptance and creative freedom, all while working together in a greasy, fast-food joint called the Hamburger Queen. The main plot kicks off when the starstruck performer Lila gets pregnant by a mysterious communist who promises her fame and stardom in East Berlin. All hell breaks loose, and a wave of hilarious and politically satirical chaos ensues.

    Von Praunheim's masterpiece has been described as a trans punk musical extravaganza brimming with outrageousness while remaining deeply human at its core. The film blends interviews, voice-overs, songs, and performance art, infusing the narrative with authentic autobiographical elements drawn from the lives of its performers and actors. Although the film received a modest reception upon its release, it has since developed a cult following and, in recent years, has been widely praised for its groundbreaking exploration of trans experiences and gender identity.

    Southern Sorceresses + Degenere

    Filmhuis Cavia is een door gemeenschappen gerund filmhuis dat al meer dan veertig jaar bestaat. Een deel van die lange geschiedenis is mede tot stand gekomen dankzij de LHBTQ+-gemeenschappen die in ons filmhuis bijeenkwamen om verschillende programmaā€™s en festivals te organiseren en bekijken, zoals TranScreen, de Roze Filmdagen, het Porn Film Festival Amsterdam, Kissable Screens en diverse losstaande films waarin queer mensen centraal staan.

    Voor deze gelegenheid slaan we de handen ineen met Radio Radio om Amsterdam als WorldPride-hoofdstad te vieren, en brengen we onze zomerse openluchtbioscoop naar het Westerpark. We vertonen een selectie van hartverwarmende films die ons tegelijkertijd uitnodigen om na te denken over onderwerpen als het patriarchaat, racisme, kolonialisme en heteronormativiteit vanuit een queer perspectief.

    Southern Sorceresses

    Southern Sorceresses volgt de optredens en improvisaties van zeven queer artiesten door de straten van het centrum van SĆ£o Paulo in een filmische ervaring die de hardnekkigheid van vooroordelen over gender en ras zichtbaar maakt. Centraal in dit veelstemmige verhaal staat het belang van politiek verzet door middel van allianties van gezamenlijke strijd tussen LGBTQIA+-collectieven, zwarte mensen, inheemse volkeren en dakloze arbeiders.

    Dorothyā€™s droom was om in een rok op het podium op te treden en erkend te worden als de vrouw die ze was, maar ze overleed voordat ze die droom kon verwezenlijken. Haar beste vriend Misael, een 60-jarige homoseksuele man, zal ervoor zorgen dat het toch gebeurt. In ChocĆ³, de Colombiaanse provincie met de grootste bevolkingsgroep van Afro-afstammelingen en de hoogste armoedecijfers, richt Misael samen met vier trans vrouwen en vier homoseksuele mannen de eerste queer volksdansgroep op. Daarmee stelt hij hun tradities ter discussie, die door culturele waarden worden verdedigd om hun queer identiteit uit te wissen.

    In de uiterst vermakelijke en verfrissend ongefilterde documentaire Kokomo City geeft filmmaker D. Smith het woord aan vier zwarte transgender sekswerkers in Atlanta en New York City ā€“ Daniella Carter, Koko Da Doll, Liyah Mitchell en Dominique Silver ā€“ die zonder schroom de muren van hun beroep doorbreken. De film houdt niets achter en bruist van energie, seks, uitdagingen en zuurverdiende wijsheid.

    Dimitris woont in Skala Skamnias, het conservatieve Griekse vissersdorpje waar ze is geboren. Ze heeft haar stervende ouders verzorgd en woont nu alleen; eindelijk kan ze van haar vrouwelijkheid genieten door op straat te dansen op oude popplaten, terwijl haar kat toekijkt. Hoewel ze door haar familie verkeerd wordt begrepen, wordt ze geprezen door journalisten die verslag doen van de vluchtelingencrisis, en haar veerkracht wordt vastgelegd door de camera. Ze blikt terug op de tijd die ze buiten Lesbos doorbracht en op haar dienstplicht in het Griekse leger. When Victor, a good-hearted young cop, swoops in and saves him from getting jumped, Maxi ends up developing an innocent crush for him.

    Things get complicated when Victor starts digging into what Maxiā€™s family is really up to. Suddenly Maxi is stuck trying to figure out where his loyalties lie; first crush or family. Director Aureaus Solito tells the story with a ton of heart and humor, digging into identity, right and wrong, and just how messy growing up can be when love and family duty donā€™t line up.

Opwindende teksten en muziek, gave kapsels en bodysuits van schaamhaar. Zo zagen we Peaches voor het eerst; de provocerende en onvergelijkbare feministische electroclashmuzikant en -kunstenaar. Het werd al snel duidelijk dat ze veel meer was dan haar muziek, zoals deze film duidelijk maakt. Peaches hielp de deuren open te trappen waardoor vrouwen in de muziek opener konden praten over seks, identiteit, woede en hun eigen, compromisloze artisticiteit. Twee decennia later bereidt Peaches zich voor op de 20e jubileumtournee van haar baanbrekende album. Teaches of Peaches combineert spectaculair beeldmateriaal van deze "The Teaches of Peaches Anniversary Tour 2022ā€ met exclusief prive-archiefmateriaal en openhartige interviews met medewerkers, bewonderaars en geliefden (waaronder Leslie Feist, Chilly Gonzalez en Shirley Manson).     Geschreven door Nouchka van Brakel en Judith Herzberg, verkent Een Vrouw Als Eva onderwerpen als vrouwelijke zelfbeschikking, seksualiteit en het verlangen naar een bestaan buiten de gebaande maatschappelijke paden. Bij de release in 1979 riep de film gemengde reacties op en werd door sommigen weggezet als feministisch pamflet, maar tegenwoordig wordt hij beschouwd als een mijlpaal in de Nederlandse filmgeschiedenis en een belangrijk werk binnen de queer en feministische cinema.
