    Queer History month

By IHLIA @ Multiple locations, Amsterdam

March 2026 is the sixth edition of Queer History Month, organized by IHLIA LBTI+ LGBTI Heritage. You can visit various events all throughout the Netherlands to celebrate this month. But why devote an entire month to queer history? During this month, we contribute to raising social awareness that gender, sex, and sexual diversity are timeless. It is also a way to promote representation. Queer History Month is about memory, queer history, and the importance of dialogue. The current political climate makes it increasingly difficult to continue the conversation with each other. Highlighting these histories calls on us to remember: make the lives of the queer community visible for the future, so that they cannot be so easily erased.

  3. Shibari classes

    Lola Lieven, Rodenrijsstraat 43, Amsterdam

    Shibari classes

    Lola Lieven, Rodenrijsstraat 43, Amsterdam

These classes are designed for absolute beginners, beginners and people who already know how to coil rope, tie a single column tie and double column tie each with double wraps and a square knot.

Information about the class: Shibari is the term generally used to define Japanese rope bondage. Although it has many similarities to Western bondage (the B of BDSM), Shibari is centred around the dynamic between partners and creates a scene of play where ropes are leading the player. The practice is rooted in eroticism but evolved outside Japan apart from sexual also to artistic practices and community building. The classes are designed for all levels but especially for beginners to give a point of entry and start the journey with ropes. They will give everyone the tools to get started in their practice safely, no matter which role they prefer to take on, tying or getting tied; switching is permitted and encouraged. The event lasts 3 hours of which 2 hours are dedicated to class and 1 hour to free tying, a ‘rope-jam’ where one can practise, tie for fun and socialise and mix with other participants. The topic of each class is different every month and will be announced in advance.

    Bio of the teacher

Eileen aka Asiana is a kinky switch with a passion for Japanese rope bondage (shibari). She’s the founder of RopeLounge and has been teaching shibari for over 10 years in Amsterdam. The aesthetics and Japanese approach to tying have a great appeal to her. Generally she likes the more challenging way of tying and enjoys seeing her partners suffer in her ropes. From an educational point of view she likes to focus both on the technical part for safety reasons and the playful part for fun.

    Erotic Collage Workshop

    Bar Bario, Bilderdijkstraat 186, Amsterdam

This workshop is part of my solo exhibition EROTIC FACES, at Bar Bario, from 18 to 22 March.

Join me for a fun evening full of creativity and empowerment where you will explore your own eroticism through the art of collage!

What does “eroticism” mean to you? Where is the line between erotic and pornographic? Why is this topic still taboo in our society?
In this workshop, we will discuss the subject and create a safe and trusting environment while making erotic collages that explore and express our own eroticism. You will learn some collage techniques as well as the materials and tools needed to produce your unique work.
No experience is necessary, just bring your enthusiasm and an open (and maybe dirty?) mind and heart.
All the materials and some snacks will be provided.
Drinks can be ordered at the bar.

During Queer History Month, Huis Willet-Holthuysen opens its doors for a special SFX make-up workshop. As with previous artistic interventions (including those by ANOHNI and House of Vineyard), this special programme offers a new and stimulating perspective on the historic canal house. In Dorian de Rijk's SFX Weapons of Mass Seduction workshop, in collaboration with Aaron Delucoire, we use make-up as a means of expression to reveal and celebrate our inner “monsters”.

STOMP is coming to OCCII and we are quakin' in our boots to share the chaotic joy of queer line dancing with you 💃🪩

Our nights are for everyone: first-timers, seasoned line dancers, and anyone in between. We kick off with a few guided lessons so nobody gets left behind, then the music takes over and the floor is ours alllll night long 🎉

Never done it before? Here's the deal:

Line dancing is a style of dance where everyone on the floor performs the same choreographed sequence of steps — forming lines, all facing the same direction, all moving together. Super beginner-friendly, and yes, you will pick it up faster than you think 🥾✨

Curious about the music? The STOMP playlist goes way beyond country — yes you'll see country dances on the floor, but we're known to swap in pop and R&B classics, queer favorites, and anything that'll make you wanna sing along while you dance 🎶

    What is STOMP?

STOMP is a queer-founded and centered line dancing collective based in Amsterdam, following the legacy of queer dance spaces and LGBTQ cowboy culture in America — with deep ties to the Black and BIPOC communities who helped shape country and dance culture as we know it today. Inspired by collectives like Stud Country (Los Angeles) and Buck Wild (New York), we teach classic country dances mixed with current favorites, all in an atmosphere that's welcoming, joyful, and friendly to every dance level.

    Queering Puppets Festival

    Plein Theater, Sajetplein 39, Amsterdam

The international Queering Puppets Festival Amsterdam will once again provide a stage for visual theatre, puppetry, and performance at Plein Theater from 1 to 6 April. The theme of this 5th anniversary edition, ‘The Nature of Things’ offers a radical response to Eurocentric and colonial perspectives on sexuality, gender, and racial framing, while questioning the assumption that humans stand at the centre of nature.

Queering Puppets Festival Amsterdam is queer, feminist, activist and above all stands out in quirkiness. It is the only festival in the Netherlands that links puppetry and object theatre for adults to queer imagination. In the safe space created by puppetry, everyone can be who they, she or he want to be. Expect a challenging mix of bodies, stories that refuse to conform to existing dominant structures, visual and erotic outbursts, edgy performances, stimulating lectures, queer food, and clubby afters.

The festival aims to break with binary thinking. Man versus woman, human versus animal, nature versus capitalism, and normal versus deviant. These boundaries are implicitly violent, oppressive, and never neutral—they are instruments of power, linked to exclusion, discipline, and destruction.

But the nature of things cannot be pinned down. It is fluid, changeable, rebellious. It reveals itself in bodies that do not fit into a single category, in biodiversity that refuses to be silenced, in voices that have been suppressed for centuries.

Visual theatre makers and performers from across the world will come together during the festival to present bold, imaginative and pleasantly unsettling shows and performances in which puppetry and object theatre break through the boundaries of identity.

Come to the Plein Theater and embrace the magic, not as an escape, but as resistance, as a collective source of strength.
