    Workshop Monsters

    QueerHub Nieuw-West, Notweg 38, Amsterdam

OndersteBoven kicks off 2026 and with it its 20th anniversary with the workshop Monsters by Dorian de Rijk, organized together with Queer Currents as the closing event of 2 years of Alliantie Queer365, supported by the Municipality of Amsterdam.

    Join us on an expedition!

For this special occasion, Dorian has created a workshop about safety and belonging. Dorian: "Monsters is about how we deal with things that aren't clear-cut. It celebrates that you can look at things from different angles. How do you deal with something that can't be captured in one word? Even in a place where you feel safe, something can feel different than you expect. What does safety actually feel like? And how do we think we should experience it?"

Monsters wants to create space that doesn't exist yet. New space for new experiences, a space where anything can happen. A queer space. Create your own monster portrait with Dorian, design a Fake-ID, or brew an elixir. This winter is the moment to deepen roots and create new forms of belonging.

In her work, Dorian draws inspiration from the Japanese Knotweed, a plant that grows everywhere. This plant shows us a new way of looking at belonging. The Japanese Knotweed makes every place her home. She grows through everything. She can be disruptive, but also healing. In winter, she goes underground to strengthen her roots. A monster, full of resilience.

You are welcome, so do register!

  2. Shibari classes

    Lola Lieven, Rodenrijsstraat 43, Amsterdam

    Shibari classes

    Lola Lieven, Rodenrijsstraat 43, Amsterdam

These classes are designed for absolute beginners, beginners and people who already know how to coil rope, tie a single column tie and double column tie each with double wraps and a square knot.

Information about the class: Shibari is the term generally used to define Japanese rope bondage. Although it has many similarities to Western bondage (the B of BDSM), Shibari is centred around the dynamic between partners and creates a scene of play where ropes are leading the player. The practice is rooted in eroticism but evolved outside Japan apart from sexual also to artistic practices and community building. The classes are designed for all levels but especially for beginners to give a point of entry and start the journey with ropes. They will give everyone the tools to get started in their practice safely, no matter which role they prefer to take on, tying or getting tied; switching is permitted and encouraged. The event lasts 3 hours of which 2 hours are dedicated to class and 1 hour to free tying, a ‘rope-jam’ where one can practise, tie for fun and socialise and mix with other participants. The topic of each class is different every month and will be announced in advance.

    Bio of the teacher

Eileen aka Asiana is a kinky switch with a passion for Japanese rope bondage (shibari). She’s the founder of RopeLounge and has been teaching shibari for over 10 years in Amsterdam. The aesthetics and Japanese approach to tying have a great appeal to her. Generally she likes the more challenging way of tying and enjoys seeing her partners suffer in her ropes. From an educational point of view she likes to focus both on the technical part for safety reasons and the playful part for fun.

    Gender and Sexuality

By FiteQlub @ Klup, Tweede Schinkelstraat 26h, Amsterdam

Throughout history, we have seen an enormous wealth of different forms of sexuality, gender expression, and family structures around the world. Unfortunately, many traditions, cultures, and spiritual traditions have been erased, colonized, and changed to fit Christian norms and values. By taking a journey through history in the Global South, we want to share different forms of family structures, sexuality, and gender expression, so that awareness is raised and participants are inspired to embark on their own journey of self-discovery in terms of their gender and sexuality.

In the second workshop, we want to take a closer look at the current discourse on diversity in sexuality and gender identity. Which colonial structures and systems are still active and how do they influence the LGBTQI+ community, particularly the BIPOC LGBTQI+ community? How do these colonial institutional and social structures translate into our daily lives?
