    Poly stories: NRE Realms

Yes, you’ve met someone new. Have you been reached by a “heady rush of escalating emotional connection and hot juiciness?” Coined by Zhahai Stewart in the 1980s, ‘new relationship energy’ has seeped into love society and the world of ethical non-monogamy. You’ve heard it coming for your friend with a new crush every catch-up, but it may come for you, too. That stranger turned object of desire, appearing only in a cloud of pink, and every other thought? As it leaves you feeling unsteady without your next hit, this new player may leave your existing partner(s) feeling a certain way, too.

Sweet, sugary, and disruptive - such can be the nature of NRE. Feel-good hormones make every interaction rewarding. A six-month attachment phase begins. Behaviour may mirror that of this idealised person. Repeated urges to be close to them may overshadow longstanding connections with others. They may recognise this change in you from before, but don’t experience it first-hand. Compersion (happiness for you) turns sour as dates become deprioritised.

Is it all bad? No. In this edition of Poly Stories, we’ll find out how to make sure there’s enough romance to go around for all people involved, how to redirect commitment impulses to sustainable intentionality - whilst maintaining freedom to explore newness, and how to stay centered in your own identity when others’ modes of being are so exciting.

Allow for play and master your way around NRE. Riding the wave, with skill, may just be the ENM foundation you didn’t know you needed.

Relating in the Dark for GBTQ men: World Pride edition

    de Ruimte, Weesperzijde 79A, Amsterdam

"This was absolutely my favorite workshop ever. I can't wait for the next one. Removing the clutter and distraction and judgment from my eyes supported me to drop in immediately to my own other senses and hearing and connection with the other. It was incredible."

    ~ Daniel

What do you notice when you stop looking?

In the dark, a new doorway opens. Come discover what's there.

After a wonderful series of events in Berlin, Edinburgh, Portland, San Francisco & LA, Relating in the Dark is coming to Amsterdam this August as part of World Pride, a special edition for gay/bi/queer/trans identifying men. 🌈

Grab a blindfold and dive deep into the enriching practices of Authentic Relating, Conscious Touch and Movement Meditation. ❤

By exploring intimacy without sight, we will delve into our intuitive nature, sharpening our capacity for deeper connection. We will use blindfolds to invite you into profound contact with your physical sensations and internal reality, creating permission to be fully, softly, powerfully yourself. 😎

    WHO is this event for?

This event welcomes all gay, bi, queer and trans men aged 18+.

This event is for any man who is seeking deeper connection, stronger community, consensual loving touch, or simply a safe space to just be yourself.

This event is also for you if you’ve been recently feeling blocked, anxious, lacking purpose or direction, and need to reground and remind yourself what's truly important and who you truly are.

My experience includes working with Highly Sensitive People (HSPs); neurodiverse people; people suffering from anxiety and depression; people going through major life shifts; and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

If you have any questions about whether the event would suit you, pop me a message and I’ll get back to you within 24 hours.

    WHAT will we explore?

The first 2.5 hours of the evening will be a facilitated journey, exploring movement, contact and relating, with and without vision and words, through Authentic Relating, Mindful Movement and Conscious Touch. The last 30 minutes will be an integrative open lounge space, as you let your eyes adjust to the visual world before leaving the container.

Authentic Relating is a pioneering communication practice that invites you to connect playfully and courageously, through radical honesty, active listening, and the permission to share what's truly alive in you. The practice draws you into presence, embodied awareness, and the rich space that emerges between people when masks come off.

Mindful Movement invites you into somatic flow, surrendering to what arises in and through your body as you move in connection with music, sometimes alone, sometimes with others. Follow impulse, release control, and let the body lead.

Conscious Touch is the practice of bringing deeper presence into physical contact with another person. Grounded in awareness of our own desires and boundaries, we explore touch as a genuine language, one that can soothe, heal and inspire delightful amounts of pleasure.

Please note: This workshop welcomes (mutually consensual) sensuality. Clothing may be removed but underwear kept on. There will be a boundary put on kissing and any sexual activity, but other forms of intimacy are welcome.

THEME OF THIS EVENING: NEURODIVERGENT LOVE

This evening is part of the Pride Art Route and in collab with the QueerTropolis exhibit at Treehouse. As celebrating diversity in love and relating, this evening we dive into the diversity of the minds.

Being able to think outside the box, perhaps because your brain works a bit differently to
begin with, can be an excellent match with ethical non-monogamy. In this world, everyone
can design their own frameworks for relating to others romantically and/or sexually - far
away from societal scripts of mononormativity and relationship milestones. Everyone has
their own set of needs, boundaries, expectations and wishes.

Neurodivergence covers a broad spectrum of ways in which the brain may work or develop
otherwise than is considered typica.. It’s a non-medical term emphasizing that every individual has their own way of processing and behaving. Whilst not everyone who is neurodivergent has a diagnosis, common examples seen within the ENM community are ADHD and autism.

One may lean toward the impulsive versus stability, speaking from deep feeling or from logical directness, acting on moods or planning ahead to know what to expect. One may thrive in some additional structure, and the other loves the spark of the spontaneous. What may be common challenges for neurodivergent people within a normative society, may be superpowers in the world of ENM.

If one partner wants a little room for impulsivity to explore and get excited about new people,
and the other needs advance notice of events to strategically divide social battery, it's worth knowing how you tick. When you take off your mask, you can connect as you are.

    THIS IS FOR YOU WHEN
This evening is for anyone: whether you’re just starting out or already experienced in non-monogamy/open relationships/polyamory.
